IT’S FINISHED!!

The CD is finished!  What a great (and a little sad) feeling!  Scott, Tyler and I worked hard all day Friday and then again for some time on Saturday.  I just couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.  The process has been a remarkable testimony to me of how very much Heavenly Father is aware of us and orchestrates every detail of our lives.  Here is a picture of Scott and I on Saturday – I had just come from Provo Canyon where our youth tubed the Provo River.  Notice the Olympics going on behind us – we watched while we mixed the songs.  (Mixing is when you get all the levels right – making sure the vocals aren’t too loud or the guitars too soft, etc.  Scott is brilliant at this.)

This is Tyler totally acting like he’s concentrating on the lyric sheet.  He was actually looking at a menu from Brick Oven.

There is one song “casualty” to report.   Friday afternoon I was singing through “If That’s Not a Miracle” and after running it down a few times, we decided that it just wasn’t a fit for this CD.  It’s a great song – maybe it’ll pop up on a CD some where down the road.

All and all creating this CD was an amazing experience.  I’m listening to the final product right now…and don’t worry, sooner than you think…you will be too!

From my heart, thank you for your support.

Blog to you soon,

Hilary

I can’t believe it’s already done! I’m SO excited to hear it! I am kind of disappointed about “If That’s Not A Miracle” though — the title of that one peaked my interest. Hope it surfaces somewhere along the line. Congrats! (Can we eat more ice cream to celebrate??)

    Hil~

Congrats on the CD! I remember a few years back I was talking to you after Day of Praise came out and you told me you felt like you could be done with doing more music. I have to tell you I am so grateful that you have continued to write more songs and produced more albums. We would be missing out on some wonderful music if you had not continued. As is everyone else, I am anxiously awaiting the day I can stop by Deseret Book and pick up a copy of this new CD. I am looking forward to hearing it over and over and over again! Thanks for blessing all of us with your incredible talent. You truly are amazing. And that hat is off the hook! You look great!

  14. Mandy Says:

I can’t wait until this is released. I feel strongly that I need to give this CD to a friend whose young husband is not expected to live more than a couple of weeks. He has cancer- the same type that my husband has, but my husband has done much better. They are not LDS, but have strong faith. I know your music has helped me through some of the hard times and I hope it will bring her some comfort.

  15. Jenna Consolo Says:

    Congratulations, pretty lady! Can’t wait!

  16. Sterling Hansen Says:

So first off. You have an AMAZING voice! I think the first song I ever heard from you was off the “A More Excellent Way” EFY cd. Wow, the Hymns on those cd’s are always my favorite. Alright so I don’t know if any of my youth leaders have contacted you at all but our stake has a stake efy every spring break and honestly, not only do I really want you to come but, they want you there also. We had Kenneth Cope last year, and this year I am lucky enough to be in charge..lucky?… and i was thinking, we HAVE to have someone who can sing. No, I haven’t heard you give a talk but, I have heard from people that you give an amazing talk, so to add to your already amazing voice, you can talk! I am quite jealous. thankyou for sharing your talents with pretty much the world, I can honestly say music has changed my life for the better and it’s because of people like you.
    thanks,
    sterling

Congratulations on your new album! What a wonderful gift to all of us from YOU! I can’t wait to pick a CD up for my sister and myself!!

Oh, and the picture of you at the piano is PERFECT! It is how I picture you sitting down and plucking out the ideas for your new songs, between the laundry and the vacuuming!!!

    Congrats again from Illinois!!

It sounds like you’ve really been through the ringer with your own grief and work lately. I’m glad that the CD is finished and I hope you know that it will truly be appreciated for all the hard work that has gone into it. I’m sure that no one really understands how much time/effort that it takes you to put it all together but it will go a long way toward helping some hearts to heal.
One day last week, I was completely and utterly at the end of my rope so to speak. Obviously unaware, someone commented that I never smiled. Their casual comment caught me off guard because I thought I had buried everything deep enough and put on a good face for the rest of the world. All of my efforts to hide 42 years of turmoil vanished in the tsnunami of tears that overcame me that day. I left everyone and rushed to the graves of my Grandparents and huddled close to their headstone, while simultaneously crying out loud for some sense of relief. Even as I write this, I’m reminded of how I miss them. No miracle came about that day, just a wave of incredible pain and sorrow as I’m sure you can imagine.
I thought about the song ‘cry’ that day and wondered if your CD was out.

As I left the gravesite that day, I turned back and read the inscriptioin that my Grandmother chose for their headstone when my Grandpa died and it said, “Precious Memories, Our love lives forever.” We did have some precious memories! However, the hope that came that day from knowing that “our love ‘really’ does live forever” was a more jubilant thought.

When I tell you that I cannot wait to see them again, that is truly an understatement! Mortal life really gets to me. That is no joke. When the majority of your relatives have left you for the other side, it is a very lonely place. I am sure some days that they packed my smile and took it with them because I know I used to have one. Either that or I have put it someplace safe, where never to be found again.

I feel lost in a sea of people who just have no clue about what it means to hurt but after reading some of the posts on your blog, I’m reminded that I’m not the only one who hurts here. I am greatful for that, not that others hurt but that some understanding is displayed in virtual penmanship.
To those i say, you aren’t alone in your suffering.

Please say a prayer for those of us who continue to mourn, we just can’t find the words…….all we can do is cry.

  20. Rebecca Schuerch Says:

I think you look good in that hat. Don’t give it back, finders keepers!

  21. wendy underwood Says:

    Hilary’
What a wonderful missionary you are of our Savior Jesus Christ! You being put here on the earth at this time, when we desperately need to feel the spirit close, was not random. Your gift of music touches the world in a way nothing else can. When you were young and wanted to share your music so bad, did you ever imagine it would be this huge! It is because the Lord loves us so much that he gave us music to feel him near. You are that vessel. I am so grateful for you and all those behind you, who make it all possible.I cannot wait to hear this new one! You Rock!

  22. Michelle AM Says:

I am so excited for this new CD! I can’t wait to hear it. I have followed the recording process on your blog, and am so grateful for your talent and gifts. You lift me up, help me cope with life’s challenges, and strengthen my testimony of the Savior. You bless the lives of so many people! Thank you for following the Spirit and sharing your talents.

  23. Leslie Pippert Says:

Impatiently waiting for the CD. :D

  24. Susan Rammell Says:

I met you at the LDS Music writers conference and your husband left us to
find my lip gloss. I did not know what to say to you it was unexpected to
be there with you alone for a few minutes. I really wanted to know how
you keep up with everything, are you filled with this amazing inspiration every hour of every day and where do you find your cute clothes. Thanks for continuing to be an inspiration.

  25. Susan Rammell Says:

I met you at the LDS Music writers conference this summer.
Your husband left us alone to find my lip gloss and there I
was standing next to you in shock, I couldn’t think of anything
to say. So now I want to know, how do you keep up with
everything, do you have inspiration every minute of every day
and where do you get your cute clothes. Thanks for sharing
your inspiration, to have the gift of soothing troubled souls
    through music is wonderful.

  26. Ally Says:

Oh yes. It’s been stuck in my car since the moment I bought four c.d’s on September 17th. I’m sending it to all my missionary buddies. Wow. Incredible. You are such a powerful tool in the Lord’s hands to building others’ testimonies. Thanks for all you do and who you are. Your words and music is greatly appreciated.

  27. Lexi Plumb Says:

    Hilary,

Words cannot even begin to describe how much your cd has meant to me. The lyrics and true inspiration behind these songs have touched my heart in more than one way. This album has helped me in realizing that through hard times, trials, or anything thrown my way that I can prevail with my Savior on my side. I appreciate your music so much more than I can express and I’m thankful for your sweet spirit and inspirational words. Thanks you so much…you have truly blessed and touched my life through your music and I will always be thankful!

  28. Melenie Says:

    Hilary,

I have been a fan of your music since I joined the church in January of 2000, and I just wanted to take a moment and tell you that I absolutely love If I Only Had Today! Thank you for continuing to uplift and inspire so many of us with your music.

My husband and I will be attending Time Out for Couples tonight in Phoenix. I’m sorry to see you aren’t the musical performer, as I would have loved for him to meet you. I have no children, but I considered coming to Time Out for Women & girls just to see you perform! =)

Congrats on another fantastic CD!! May our Heavenly Father continue to pour His blessing on you and your family.

    Best,
    Melenie Ottosen
