In 2 Nephi chapter 25 there are beautiful references to believing in Christ.

“…they shall be persuaded to believe in Christ.” (v. 16)

“…they shall believe in Christ.” (v. 16)

“There is none other name given under heaven save it be this Jesus Christ, of which I have spoken, whereby man can be saved.” (v. 20)

“We labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ.” (v. 23)

“We believe in Christ.” (v. 24)

“We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ.” (v. 26)

“…for the right way is to believe in Christ.” (v. 28)

“…the right way is to believe in Christ.” (v. 29)

Nephi just spent a chapter exhorting, encouraging and teaching us to believe in Christ.  And then he says “it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.”   I am persuaded to believe that “all we can do” means believing in Jesus Christ.  When the weight of the world is suffocating, when we are being crushed by our struggles and when heartache is making it hard to breathe – I believe what is require of us is to believe in the power of the Savior.  Sometimes that is literally all we can do.  In those moments God wants our broken hearts.  He wants us to claim the grace of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He wants us to know His Son by trusting Him and letting Him carry us.

Elder Holland teaches, “Belief is a precious word, an even more precious act, and [we] need never apologize for “only believing.” Christ Himself said, “Be not afraid, only believe.” Belief was always the first step toward conviction and that the definitive articles of our collective faith forcefully reiterate the phrase “We believe.”

When people tell me how music has lifted and blessed them, the phrase I hear most often is “Your music got me through my darkest hour.”  And more often than not, it is the song “He’ll Carry You” that they are referring to.

That is why I write music.  I write songs to help bring us closer to Heavenly Father and His Son.  They live.  They are real.  Faithful, worshipful music is one of the quickest and most powerful ways to be reminded of that.

Today, I hope “He’ll Carry You” reminds you of Elder Holland’s words, “However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.”

God hears our prayers and send answers, peace and hope.  Sometimes we hit rock bottom – we reach the end of our trying-to-do-it-all ropes and we aren’t sure we can hang on.  The Savior will help us hang on.  He will help us keep going.  He will carry you and me.
