A New Song Every Month

A New Song Every Month

For quite a while, I wasn’t sure when—or even if—I would be releasing much new music again. I had taken a year long sabbatical from music and performing during which time, I had received a prompting to keep writing. But it took me a year and a half to respond. Then earlier this year, after a season of stepping back, I felt a very clear nudge from God to start writing songs again and this time I acted.

And something beautiful happened: the songs started coming.

Beginning this month, I’ll be sharing one brand-new song every month in the Live All In app. My hope is that each new song can meet you somewhere in your life—a little encouragement when you need it, a reminder of what you believe, something to sing along with in the car, or simply a few minutes that turn your heart toward hope and God.

I share all the details of why and how I'm writing new songs in Song Notes on the Live All In app. It's a podcast-style approach to talking about each new song and I'm keeping it short and sweet. I’m so grateful to have found a way to create and share music again, and even happier that every new song will be free for you to listen to in the app.

Rewrite Journal

Rewrite

We all have moments we wish we could change—memories that still carry a little sadness, regret, or hurt. Rewrite is about discovering that even when we can’t change what happened, we can change what we carry forward.

We can pull the good from the pain, keep the healing instead of the hurt, and begin to see our story through eyes of love. And, with God’s grace, even the hardest pages can become part of something meaningful and beautiful.

I hope Rewrite gives you a little more light for whatever chapter you’re writing now.

You can listen to the new song in the Live All In app, watch the lyric video on YouTube, or, if you’d like to sing or play it yourself, find the sheet music and minus track on my website.

Song Notes

Song Notes

There’s always more to a song than what you hear in the finished recording.

With each new monthly release, I’ll share a short Song Notes message in the Live All In app—the story behind the song, where the idea came from, what was happening while I wrote or recorded it, and a little of what I hope the message might bring to your heart.

I’m recording these right on my phone—nothing fancy. I want them to feel more like you and I are sitting together for a few minutes, talking about music, life, faith, and some of the things God teaches us along the way. I'm excited for you and I to connect in this way. I think you're gonna love it!

This month, I’m sharing the story behind Rewrite—including the conversation with my daughter Marley that sparked the whole idea.

Photo Shoot

Photo Shoot

I needed some new photos (it had been seven years), so I asked Nikayla—a friend from our Provo married-student ward who has been developing her photography skills—if she’d be willing to take them. My daughter Marley came along too and turned out to have such a good eye for locations, backgrounds, and posing. It became a really fun little team effort.

We took the photos near Midway, Utah, and this stream ended up being one of my favorite spots.

And there’s a story behind the shirt! I bought it in Rome about three years ago after almost talking myself out of it. I tend to be wishy washy about buying things for myself, but Tim encouraged me to get it. Three years later, I’m very glad he did—it was perfect against the water and greenery.

I even did my own hair and makeup for the shoot, which I don’t think I’ve ever done before. Definitely not my area of expertise, but somehow it all came together.

And because every glamorous photo shoot should apparently end this way, Marley, Nikayla, and I wrapped up the night with dinner at Denny’s at 10:00 p.m. Somehow that made the whole adventure even better.
