I Am the Storm

The idea for the song “I Am the Storm” came from my late friend Kris Belcher.  She sent me this quote:

“The devil whispered in my ear, ‘You’re not strong enough to withstand the storm.’

Today I whispered in the devil’s ear, ‘I am a child of God, a woman of faith, a warrior of Christ. I am the storm.’ ”

Isn’t that amazing?

After sending me the quote Kris said, “You need to write that song.”

I teamed up with Dustin Christensen – one of Nashville’s premier songwriters. We wrote the song in August of 2018. Then in early September, I was about to travel to Nashville to record a new CD which would include this song.  Literally two days before I was about to hop on an airplane, Heavenly Father whispered, “I need you to change the song.”

What? I can’t! That’s hard! I’m leaving for Nashville in like ten minutes!

But I couldn’t deny the prompting. I nervously went to the piano and God took my hands, played new notes, formed new words and captured the power of that quote in about one hour.  It was a guided moment.  It felt like a divine creation.

I believe God intervened so the song could be as powerful as possible. I’m not such a great songwriter on my own, but when heaven steps in, the music rises to heights I could never have attained.

This song is powerful. God wants you to hear this message and let it fill you with His power. He wants you to do important, meaningful and great things.  And He knows you can. Important and great are at the core of who you are.  You are filled with the divinity of Heavenly Father and you have a work to do.  The adversary knows that too and he will try to thwart your mission, effectiveness, confidence and strength, every chance he gets.

When he whispers falsehoods in your ear – see them for what they are…half-truths and flat-out lies.  You are strong enough to withstand the storm.  Not only that, as you walk faithfully hand in hand with God, you are a power for good in the world.  You change lives, home and situations.  You are a grace-filled force to be reckoned with.

You are the storm.

And don’t you forget it.
